T
he earliest representations of the game known as tennis originated from carvings in Egyptian temples dating from 1500 B.C. The ball game was actually incorporated as part of the religious ceremonies. The Moors, whose Empire was located into France, were responsible for the spread and influence of the ball game tradition during the 8th century. The introduction between eastern cultures with Christianity created the rise from ball game to tennis.

The first European people to play the game rather based on the Moors’ religious ceremonies were Christian Monks. The earliest version of the game was called ‘La Soule’, which is where players used wither their hands or sticks to hit the ball to each other. The game became the new trend for all Monasteries through out Europe; it became so bad that the Church considered prohibiting the game.

During the 12th and 13th century, the early version of the game moved passed Monasteries where people hit it against the courtyards and transformed into something more. Players decided that it was much easier to use their hands to navigate the ball because it gave them more control. This lead to the creation of the leather glove, which was eventually improved with the addition of a wooden handle, creating the first tennis racket. The ball was also improved form a solid wood design to a softer design made of leather stuffed with bran. The game became very popular in France and was taken over by Royalty.

Presently in our society, tennis is an international competitive sport captivating the hearts and souls of the players and fans. There is a constant program of tournaments and events have taken place over the years which have continued to take place. These tournaments are still taken place because it is the founding place of the top players which have become the icon of our generation.
